Football: Golden Dozen announced; Stepinac’s Brian Harris wins Mello Award

Stepinac senior lineman Brian Harris (pictured above) earned the top honor and was among the 35 scholar-athletes honored from the 2013 football season during Thrusday’s 41st annual Golden Dozen Awards Banquet at Westchester Country Club.

The Golden Dozen is sponsored by the Westchester chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. Each season, the organization names the Top 12 scholar-athletes its “Golden Dozen” and also awards a group of athletes as second team scholar-athletes.

Harris, who is a two-way starter for the Crusaders, earned the Christopher Mello Scholar-Athlete Award and Scholarship, which is named for a former Rye High School student who was killed in the 9/11 attacks.
